Today, we would like for you to meet another one of the valley charities that will benefit from the proceeds of our Hubble Hero House: Meridian Food Bank.
The Meridian Food Bank has been serving neighbors in need for more than a decade. They began operating in 1999 as the Valley Shepherd Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Center. Initially, the center was a place for homeless and low-income people in Meridian to receive food and clothing. In 2004, they began operating as a nonprofit food pantry doing business as the Meridian Food Bank. The Meridian Foodbank was started by volunteers and remains an all-volunteer organization. No salaries have ever been paid. Typically over 200 volunteers support and operate the Foodbank.
Mission: To provide nutritional services that meet the food insecurity needs of individuals and families throughout the Treasure Valley.
Meridian Foodbank's Executive Director Dan Clark told us how much the Hubble Hero House project means to them: "The fact that you refer to it as the charity house and we are associated with it validates who we are and what we do." He added that the recognition they are receiving from the event will let the people in need know the Meridian Foodbank is here to help.
Mr. Clark shared with us, that the money they receive from the sale of our Hubble Hero House will go toward the purchase of a refrigerated truck. He added: "Because we move thousands of pounds of food from local stores to the food bank on a daily basis, we need reliable equipment to keep it safe."
